Definition

Acute myeloid leukemia with inv(16)(p13q22) or t(16;16)(p13;q22), (CBFB/MYH11) is an acute myeloid leukemia with monocytic and granulocytic differentiation. They are also characterized  by a characteristically abnormal eosinophilia in the bone marrow. This combination is commonly referred to as AMML Eo. (FAB M4)

Epidemiology

The inv(16)(p13;q22) is found in approximatley10-12% of cases of AML. It can occur in all age groups but is predomantly seen in younger patients.
